YouTube Launches New TikTok-Like Features, Making Live Streaming Easier for Users
YouTube is stepping up its game in the short-form video market by continuously updating its YouTube Shorts features. The Google-owned platform has now introduced several new tools that resemble TikTok’s popular functionalities.
According to The Verge, Saturday (July 13, 2024), one major update includes experimenting with live video previews directly in the YouTube Shorts feed.
This feature allows users to watch live streams straight from the preview and explore other live content in a single view—similar to the experience on TikTok.
Another exciting addition is monetization opportunities for Shorts creators, including paid chat and membership features within the Shorts format.
YouTube also unveiled a new tool to convert horizontal videos into Shorts, complete with zoom and crop functionalities.
Creators can also take advantage of audio and effects suggestions to easily recreate videos, much like TikTok and Instagram Reels. Additionally, YouTube introduced a Collab feature, enabling side-by-side video recording with other content—similar to TikTok’s Duet feature.
These updates are likely part of YouTube’s strategy to compete with TikTok in the short-form video space. Previously, the platform had lowered monetization requirements to attract more creators to join the YouTube Partner Program.
With these new features, YouTube is solidifying its ambition to become a leading platform for short-form video creators and viewers. As a result, the competition in the short-video arena between platforms is expected to intensify.
