Selera Nusantara: A Local Indonesian Game Celebrating Culinary Culture and Aiming for Global Reach
Indonesia’s gaming industry continues to make impressive strides with innovative titles and high-quality gameplay experiences. One standout example is “Selera Nusantara.”
Developed by Gambir Studio, this game has quickly caught attention and was recently highlighted on the Apple App Store as part of the Made in Indonesia campaign.
The Made in Indonesia campaign is Apple’s way of recognizing apps and games that actively promote Indonesian culture.
Created by Gambir Studio, Selera Nusantara invites players to explore Indonesia’s rich culinary heritage—from Sabang to Merauke.
“We want to bring Indonesian food from Sabang to Marauke and introduce the culture through cuisine to a wider audience,” said Shafiq Husein, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gambir Studio, during a closed interview session.
Gambir Studio has been active since August 2016, starting with simple culinary-themed games like Bubur Ayam. Over time, the team—comprised of industry veterans with up to 15 years of experience—recognized the universal appeal and massive potential of food as a theme capable of reaching global audiences.
This insight motivated the Gambir Studio team to develop Selera Nusantara, an ambitious project that brings together a wide variety of dishes from across the archipelago into one game.
Selera Nusantara is not just a casual game for entertainment; it also serves as a medium to introduce Indonesian culture to the world.
Through the game, players can learn about traditional Indonesian dishes, how they’re prepared, and the stories and history behind each one.
“We continue to add features such as story elements and various mini-games inside Selera Nusantara,” Shafiq added.
