Google Images Can Now Generate AI Images—Just Type a Keyword in Google Search! Images

Google has introduced a new feature that allows users to generate images directly within Google Images. Announced through the Google Blog on Monday (October 16, 2023), this feature uses generative artificial intelligence (AI).

For example, if you’re looking for Halloween table decoration ideas or a spooky dog house concept, you can simply type your query into the search bar and ask Google to generate images based on your request.

A standout benefit of this feature is that users can activate Google Lens on the generated images to find real-world products similar to the ones created by generative AI.

However, to access this feature, users must sign up for Google Labs and opt into the SGE (Search Generative Experience) program.

Additionally, this new AI image generation feature is currently available only in the United States, in English-language apps, and for users 18 years and older.

While the feature offers convenience and creativity, there are some important limitations. Google blocks users from creating photorealistic images of human faces and images of public figures.

Google also uses SynthID, a system developed by DeepMind, to embed invisible metadata watermarks into the generated images. This watermark includes information about who created the image and when it was generated.

These new tools can be accessed through the Labs tab in the Google app on iOS and Android, as well as in Chrome on desktop for selected users.

Although the feature is being introduced today, Google plans to expand it to more users in the coming weeks.

This marks Google’s latest effort to control the misuse of generative AI technology while offering a more guided and safe user experience.
