Fortnite Set to Return to iOS, Epic Games Reveals Release Timeline

Apple has reportedly updated its policies regarding the installation of apps from outside the App Store. This change comes as part of its effort to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which will take effect in European Union countries.
Following this policy shift, Epic Games has announced plans to bring Fortnite back to the iOS platform. According to GSM Arena, Sunday (January 28, 2024), the company shared the update through its official social media channels.
In its announcement, Epic Games stated that Fortnite will return to iOS for users in the European Union by late 2024. This means the Epic Games Store will serve as an alternative app marketplace for iOS users to download the game.
“Fortnite will return to iOS in Europe in 2024, distributed through the Epic Games Store for iOS,” the company wrote.
This announcement is significant, given the ongoing dispute between Epic Games and Apple over the past several years.
As a reminder, Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store in 2020 after the game violated Apple’s policy prohibiting external payment systems outside its ecosystem.
With the new policy changes, Fortnite is now expected to make a comeback for iOS users via the Epic Games Store.
However, Epic Games has not yet revealed the exact launch date for its app store on Apple’s mobile platform.
For context, the policy allowing iPhones to install third-party apps is expected to roll out with iOS 17.4, scheduled for March 2024.
With this update, EU users will be able to download alternative marketplaces or app stores directly from a website.
