Easy Way to Sync Your iCloud Email to Gmail
Managing multiple email accounts can be frustrating, especially when you have to switch between apps just to check messages.
Fortunately, Gmail offers a feature that makes your life easier—you can combine email accounts from different providers, including iCloud, into a single app.
However, there’s one extra step for iCloud users because Apple uses an additional security system called an app-specific password.
Don’t worry—the process is simple and only takes a few minutes. If you’re curious how to set it up, here’s an easy guide to adding your iCloud email to Gmail, based on tips from Android Police (Monday, December 2, 2024).
1. Create an App-Specific Password
Before starting, you need to create an app-specific password for security:
-
Open a browser on your computer and go to the Apple Sign-In and Security Settings page.
-
Select App-Specific Passwords.
-
Click Generate an app-specific password, then give it a name—such as “Gmail.”
-
Enter your Apple ID password for verification, then click Continue.
-
Note the 16-character password that appears—you’ll use this later.
2. Add Your iCloud Email to Gmail on Desktop
Once you have your app-specific password, you can add your iCloud email to Gmail:
-
Open Gmail in your browser and log in.
-
Click the gear icon in the top-right corner and choose See all settings.
-
Go to the Accounts and Import tab, find the Send mail as section, and click Add another email address.
-
Enter your iCloud email address and click Next Step.
-
For SMTP Server, type:
smtp.mail.me.com, and keep the port set to 587. -
Enter the app-specific password you generated earlier in the password field.
-
Select Secured connection using TLS, then click Add Account.
-
Check your iCloud inbox for a confirmation email.
-
Click the link sent by Google—and you’re done!
