The studio behind the iconic DOOM franchise, id Software, has made a shocking announcement. During the Xbox Games Showcase, the studio revealed the next installment in the DOOM series.
In an official statement released Friday (June 14, 2024), id Software announced DOOM: The Dark Ages, a new FPS game that takes players back in time—long before DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal.
Players will step into the boots of DOOM Slayer, the ultimate weapon against gods and kings, as he battles the forces of Hell in a medieval war.
The game promises iconic weaponry like the Super Shotgun, as well as deadly new weapons such as the Shield Saw. Players will also have the chance to ride massive Mecha Dragons, including piloting the gigantic Atlan Mecha, to crush enormous demonic foes.
Despite its historical setting, DOOM: The Dark Ages retains the fast-paced, brutal, and adrenaline-fueled gameplay that fans know and love. Players will explore battlefields teeming with demons while uncovering the dark secrets behind the legend of DOOM Slayer.
DOOM: The Dark Ages is scheduled for release in 2025 and will be available on multiple platforms, including Xbox Series X/S, PC, PlayStation 5, and Game Pass.
Other announcements shared during the showcase include new trailers for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Premieres, expansions for Starfield and Fallout 76: Skyline Valley, and a new trailer for The Elder Scrolls Online.
