Microsoft Makes Notepad and Paint Smarter with New AI Features
Microsoft is upgrading two of its most iconic apps—Paint and Notepad—by integrating powerful AI features designed to make users more productive.
According to The Register on Friday (November 15, 2024), one of the new AI features coming to Notepad is Rewrite. As the name suggests, this feature allows users to refine and improve the text they’re working on.
Several options are available within the Rewrite tool, including:
-
Make the text more concise
-
Make the text more formal
-
Make the text more casual
Once users choose their preferred option, the AI will generate alternative versions of the text, and users can simply pick the one they like best.
The Rewrite feature in Notepad is powered by Microsoft Cloud, meaning users will need to sign in with their Microsoft account to use it.
In addition to the new AI capabilities, Microsoft has also boosted Notepad’s performance. The company claims the latest version launches up to 55% faster.
Meanwhile, Microsoft Paint is also receiving significant AI enhancements, including Generative Fill and Generative Erase.
With Generative Fill, users can add new elements to an image simply by entering a text prompt.
Generative Erase, on the other hand, lets users remove unwanted objects from images effortlessly.
For now, these AI-powered features are only available to Windows Insiders, but they are expected to roll out to more users soon.
