Meta Rolls Out Trending Topics on Threads, Allowing Users to Discover What’s Going Viral
Meta has officially introduced a new feature that lets users view trending conversations on Threads. The Twitter/X rival has launched the Trending Now feature for all users in the United States.
The feature was announced directly by Mark Zuckerberg in a post on Threads, according to Engadget on Thursday (March 21, 2024).
Meta explains that the new feature uses AI to identify topics that are currently being widely discussed on Threads.
These trending topics will appear in the app’s search tab and will also surface within the For You feed, allowing users to quickly explore what’s gaining attention.
Although the feature has been released to the public, its functionality is still limited. For now, Threads only displays the top five trending topics.
This limitation likely aims to keep the trending list curated and to avoid issues similar to those often found in Twitter/X’s Trending Topics.
Meta also notes that it employs content specialists to review trending topics and ensure they comply with the company’s community guidelines.
The addition of Trends on Threads is one of the most requested features from users. It provides a quick way for people to stay updated on breaking news, popular discussions, and real-time events within Meta’s fast-growing platform.
