Google Renames Its AI Chatbot Bard to Gemini
Google Bard, the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot that competes with ChatGPT, has officially been rebranded as Google Gemini.
News about the upcoming name change to Google Gemini was first leaked a week earlier by Android app developer Dylan Russel through his X account.
The tech giant formally announced the rebranding of Bard to Gemini on Thursday, February 8, 2024 (local time).
In addition to the new name, Google also launched a dedicated Gemini app for Android devices and integrated all Duet AI features in Google Workspace into Gemini.
Google Gemini is powered by the Gemini Pro 1.0 model and is now available in more than 230 countries and supports over 40 languages.
Similar to Microsoft’s AI chatbot, users can interact with Gemini AI through text, voice, or by uploading photos as references—including generating AI-based images.
According to The Verge (Friday, February 9, 2024), Google also announced that its most powerful AI model, Gemini Ultra 1.0, is beginning to roll out to the public.
For now, Gemini is free for everyone. However, Google is also offering a second-tier solution called Gemini Advanced.
Google explained that Gemini Advanced is powered by the Gemini Ultra 1.0 model, available in more than 150 countries, and can be used for free for the first two months.
After the free trial, users will be charged USD 20 (around IDR 313,000) for the premium Google One AI plan.
