Google is bringing a suite of generative artificial intelligence (AI) features to Google Meet, its online meeting platform.
Darryl McKinnon, Director for Asia Pacific at Google Workspace, revealed during an event at Google’s Singapore office on Tuesday (October 17, 2023) that Google Meet users will soon be able to enhance their on-screen appearance using the Studio Look feature.
“With AI, we can fix camera blur—whether your device is outdated or the image is unclear. With generative AI, we help you look your best on screen,” he explained.
Google Meet also introduces Studio Lighting, a generative AI tool designed to improve the lighting in a user’s video feed.
Another highlighted feature is Automatic Translated Captions, where Google Meet’s AI can detect the language spoken by participants and translate it automatically.
“Since we can capture it, we also capture it in the meeting—so you’ll have a full transcript of the discussion, both in the original language and in translation,” McKinnon added.
To support presentations, Google Meet’s AI can also provide a real-time teleprompter, including suggestions for proper intonation.
AI Tools to Boost Productivity in Google Meet
Another powerful AI feature is automated note-taking, where AI can summarize key points discussed during a meeting.
“So even if you join late, you will still receive a summary of what’s already been discussed, allowing you to catch up quickly while the meeting continues,” McKinnon said.
Google Meet also integrates Duet AI technology, allowing users to generate custom AI backgrounds tailored to their meeting themes or topics.
All Duet AI features in Google Meet are available through Google Workspace Enterprise.
During the event, McKinnon also revealed that Google Workspace now has three billion users, with 10 million of them being paid customers.
